  Basic Human Rights (BHR) is a UK based international charity registered with the charity commission of England & Wales (registration # 1133308). BHR was founded by Anjum Tahirkheli in Bradford during the year 2009 in response to the increasing need to address the issues related to human rights globally.
The organization is currently focusing on the following thematic areas;
     
Emergency & Relief
     
  Raising awareness about major disasters globally to ensure effective and efficient response to catastrophes worldwide
  Providing relief items according to the needs of the affected people directly and through local partners on the ground
  All above in coordination with the UN-OCHA (United Nations Office for the Coordination of
Humanitarian Affairs) and by following the SPHERE standards

 
Human Rights
  Efforts for the protection of the basic human rights of the people in the geographically focused areas
  highlight the human rights violations in the third world countries
  Ensure access to justice through getting the media and human rights activist involved
  Holding international seminars to highlight the violations of human rights
  Capacity building of the vulnerable communities

  Disaster preparedness (as cross cutting theme)

Geographical Focus:
According to the mandate of the organization wherever there is a major disaster BHR will respond to the needs of the affected people. However for the interventions related to Human Rights and Sustainable Development the organization’s current focus is on Pakistan, Palestine and the UK at the moment, which will be expanded to other countries where the need exists
 
 
Working Approach:
Basic Human Rights working approach is coordination at all levels with other stakeholders to ensure effectiveness and avoid duplication. Involvement of the communities its working with at all level and initiatives that will contribute to the millennium development goals and to the development plans of the focused countries.
 
 
Partnerships:
The organization has responded to the IDPs crisis in Pakistan in 2009 in partnership with UNHCR and Islamic Relief UK. The organization also focused on the humanitarian crisis in Palestinian territory. Awareness and funds were raised through organizing campaigns in the UK.
 
 
Code of Conduct:
BHR is in the process of signing the International Code of Conduct to ensure its operations worldwide are implemented within the codes and set standards.
 
 
Contribution to the MDGs:
Activities of the BHR are ultimately contributing to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the UN and major countries.
